CALL FOR PAPERS
The Centre of Languages and Communication (CLC) at Poznan University of Technology is pleased to announce the hybrid conference Looking ahead: Developing academics’ and students’ linguistic and intercultural competence for a globalised world as part of its 70th anniversary celebrations which will be held on 24-25-26 May 2023
The conference aims to bring together leading academics, researchers and teachers to exchange and share experience relating to the development of academics' and students' linguistic competence for a globalised world. The conference will be an opportunity for academic staff to analyse methods and strategies for effective language teaching and learning within an international environment. Combining the possible and the potential of academic practice, we are taking one small step for our academic community, which may become one giant leap for the wider global university space.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
- Abstracts of papers and workshops of up to 300 words should be submitted as a Word attachment (please use the template) within the registration form.
- Proposals should include the title (please specify the form – presentation or workshop and the number of the conference topic your presentation or workshop considers), your name, your institutional affiliation, e-mail address and a short biographical note of up to 80 words in length, abstract (up to 300 words) and key words (between 5 and 7).
- A notification of acceptance will be sent by March 31, 2023.
- We welcome contributions relating to the theme of the conference in the form of:
- presentations (20 minutes + 10 minutes for discussion)
- workshops (45 minutes)
- posters
CONFERENCE TOPICS
The main topics of the conference, with all their interrelated sub-issues, have been chosen with thorough consideration by experts in the field. Our concern is to contribute to the debate on developing academics' and students' linguistic and intercultural competence for a globalised world. The list of topics is intentionally broad so as to encourage the sharing of a wide range of expertise, ideas, and findings, and to stimulate lively discussion.
The main themes of the conference include:
1. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in language learning and teaching
- ecolinguistics, ecology movement and environmental humanities
- ESD in the foreign language curriculum
- ESD as a lifelong learning process and an integral part of quality education
- the cognitive, social, emotional and behavioral dimensions of learning
- ESD as the holistic and transformative education including content outcomes and the learning environment itself
2. Academic teachers’ roles and students’ needs in a technology-rich environment
- changes in teachers' roles and students' needs
- types of collaboration tools
- developing teacher and learner autonomy
- foreign language didactics in a digital multilingual context
- Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and innovation

PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Papers should be submitted by e-mail (Word attachment) to conference_clc2023@put.poznan.pl by June 15, 2023.
All the papers with positive reviews will be published in post-conference materials.
Authors should ensure that the manuscript does not contain any material published previously (except for an abstract or thesis) or is under consideration for publication elsewhere. The submitting author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have been equally involved in the preparation of the manuscript, as well as listed in the manuscript. Moreover, the submitting author should ensure that all co-authors have approved the manuscript. Finally, the submitting author is responsible for the paper during the reviewing process.
To facilitate the reviewing process, it is essential that the contributors adhere to the guidelines presented below:
Articles should be between 3000 and 5000 words in length (including references but excluding tables, figures and appendices). Articles should be presented as follows:
1. Name of author(s) followed by institutional affiliation(s) and e-mail address(es).
If there are two or more authors, please indicate which of them should receive correspondence
2. Title of article
3. Abstract (200–250 words)
4. Key words (between 5 and 7)
5. Text of the article
6. References
7. Appendices
8. Tables and/or figures in the order in which they appear in the article.
Activity reports should be between 2000 and 3000 words. Activity reports should be presented as follows:
1. Name of author(s) followed by institutional affiliation(s) and e-mail address(es). If there are two or more authors, please indicate which of them should receive correspondence
2. Title of activity report
3. Abstract (150-200 words)
4. Key words (between 5 and 7)
5. Text of the activity report organised as follows:
a. Introduction (participants - who, when, where, why)
b. Description of context (scope of activity, preparation, delivery, problems, challenges, follow up)
c. Summary of results/ experience
d. Future prospects (conclusions and recommendations)
6. References
7. Appendices
8. Tables and/or figures in the order in which they appear in the article.
Whether you are submitting an article or an activity report, please observe the following conventions:
- Margins: 2.5 cm
- Font: Times New Roman 12pt
- Paragraph spacing: 1.5 lines
- Numbering of sections and sub-sections: please follow the publisher’s style sheet (appended to these guidelines)
- Indent the first line of each paragraph by pressing the tab key once
- No space after paragraphs
- As indicated above, tables and figures should be inserted in sequence at the end of your text file. Indicate roughly where each table/figure should occur by inserting in your text: [Please insert Table/Figure X here]
- Footnotes should be used sparingly and inserted using the INSERT FOOTNOTE function in Word
- Figures, screenshots, etc. should be submitted as high-resolution images
- References, both in the running text and in the list at the end of the article, should be presented strictly according to the publisher’s style sheet (appended to these guidelines).
Submissions that fail to observe these conventions will not be considered for publication. If you are not a native speaker of the language in which you write your article/activity report or you are not an expert in academic language, you are advised to have your text checked by an expert in academic language writing before you submit it.
