Focus Group CLIL/EMI in Higher Education

On September 12, 2024, the coordinators of the Focus Group CLIL/EMI in Higher Education, Edyta Olejarczuk, PhD and Katarzyna Matuszak, conducted the first Focus Group meeting gathering new members within the XVIII CercleS conference entitled “Multilingualism & the Anglosphere”, which took place in Durham, Great Britain. 

During the meeting the following aspects of CLIL/EMI were discussed:
1. FG mission and vision.
2. EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) vs CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning).
3. EMI experience at Poznan University of Technology.
4. SWOT analysis of CLIL/EMI.
5. Perspectives for the future.
 

The Focus Group was established in June 2023 by the following members:
Margarida Coelho, PhD, Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, Portugal, Katarzyna Matuszak, PhD, Poznan University of Technology, Poland, Margarida Morgado, PhD, Polytechnic University of Castelo Branco, Portugal, Edyta Olejarczuk, PhD, Poznan University of Technology, Poland.
 

The main aims of the group are as follows:
 

  • to explore CLIL and EMI in Higher Education;
  • to investigate the role of language centres in creating and supporting professional development programmes and educational initiatives in the area of CLIL/EMI;
  • to design, pilot and implement tailored courses & training sessions for CLIL/EMI teachers;
  • to produce general guidelines for CLIL/EMI teachers and teachers-to-be;
  • to improve FL and content teacher collaboration for CLIL/EMI.
     

The Focus Group founders are willing to welcome interested academic teachers in our team.
