Have a question about your language course, course credit or the exam?
Please check the answers below first. If you cannot find the information you need, contact the right person: for academic matters, your teacher; for administrative matters, the Student Secretary’s Office, or follow the latest CLC notice.
Registration and groups
How do I sign up for the language course?
You can find registration information on the CLC website under “Language Course Registration” and “News”. If your degree programme requires a placement test, take it before choosing your group. You register through the university system within the period announced by CLC.
Where can I find the placement test?
The test is available on the CLC website under “Placement Test for Language Course Registration”. Information on whether the test is compulsory for your degree programme is included in the registration notice.
I missed the language course registration deadline. What should I do?
Contact the Student Secretary’s Office as soon as possible. In your message, state your degree programme, mode of study, cycle of study and semester. If your programme requires a placement test, include your result as well.
I am in the wrong group, at the wrong level or in the wrong language. Can I change it?
Yes, but only in justified cases. Contact the Student Secretary’s Office immediately. Changes are only possible within the deadline set by CLC, no later than during the first two weeks of classes. The decision depends on how the courses are organised and on the availability of places.
Can I take a language course in a language other than English?
That depends on your degree programme, CLC’s organisational capacity and the number of students interested. The choice of language is not entirely open. If you would like to take a course in another language, contact the Student Secretary’s Office.
Where can I check which group I have been assigned to?
Check your timetable and the information in USOS. If you are unsure, also check the notices on the CLC website. If you spot any discrepancies, report them immediately to the Student Secretary’s Office.
Attendance
Is attendance in language classes compulsory?
Yes. The language course is a compulsory part of your degree programme.
How can I have an absence excused?
You must explain the absence to your teacher as soon as the reason for it no longer applies. Your teacher will decide how you can make up the missed work.
Can I pass the course if I exceed the permitted number of absences?
Exceeding the absence threshold set out in the Regulations of Studies may mean that you do not receive credit for the course, even if the absences are justified. Your teacher will explain the detailed rules at the beginning of the semester.
Where can I find the requirements for passing my language course?
Your teacher will explain the detailed requirements at the beginning of the semester and publish them in the course materials, especially on eKursy.
I cannot see the course on eKursy or I am having trouble accessing the materials. Who should I contact?
Contact your teacher first. They are responsible for day-to-day information about the course.
Passing the language course
What determines whether I pass the course?
It depends on whether you achieve the learning outcomes set out in the ECTS course description and meet the requirements given by your teacher at the start of the semester.
How can my progress be assessed?
For example through tests, quizzes, spoken and written tasks, presentations, projects, or other assignments indicated by your teacher. The forms of assessment must be consistent with the ECTS course description.
I did not pass the course. Am I entitled to a resit?
Yes. The resit is held in accordance with the Regulations of Studies.
I have passed the final foreign language exam, but I have not passed one semester of the language course. Do I still need to pass that semester?
Yes. The course and the final exam are separate forms of assessment. Passing one does not replace the other.
I am resuming my studies or transferring from another university, degree programme or mode of study. Will my previous passes be recognised?
Under the Study Regulations, the Dean decides whether previously completed classes and ECTS credits can be recognised. If they are recognised, the relevant entries are added by the Dean’s Office. If not, you take the language course in line with your degree programme.
I have already passed a language course on another degree programme at Poznan University of Technology. Can it be recognised?
Language courses are assigned to specific degree programmes, so passing a language course on another programme does not automatically exempt you from the course on your current one. In justified cases, your teacher may recognise learning outcomes achieved earlier if, on the basis of the documentation provided, they find that both the syllabus content and the learning outcomes match the scope of the course required for your programme. This is not a formal transfer of ECTS credits.
Final exam
Is the final foreign language exam compulsory?
Only if it is included in your degree programme.
What level is the final exam?
It is normally set at B2, unless your degree programme or the ECTS course description states otherwise.
Do I need to register for the final exam?
No, not if you are taking the exam at the standard level. The only requirement is that, in the semester when the exam takes place, you must be assigned in USOS to the list labelled “Lecture” for the relevant language. Detailed information about the organisation of the exam is published on the CLC website under “Exam”.
Can I choose to take the exam at C1 level?
Yes. You must register on your own within the deadline and in the way specified on the CLC website under “Exam”. If you do not register for C1, you will take the exam at the standard level.
Can I change my choice of C1 level for the resit?
No. Your choice of level applies both to the first sitting and to the resit.
Does the final exam consist of two parts?
Yes. The foreign language exam is a single exam consisting of a written and an oral part. You take both parts within the same exam sitting.
What happens if I miss the exam or arrive late for part of it?
If you cannot take the exam, follow the Study Regulations and the exam procedures described on the CLC website under “Exam”. If you do not take the written part, you cannot take only the oral part in the same exam sitting.
Where can I find information about the exam and sample materials?
Check the “Exam” tab on the CLC website. That is where exam descriptions, sample materials, assessment criteria and organisational information are published.
I am not listed in the exam record or I cannot see my grade in USOS. What should I do?
First, check the information published on the CLC website and make sure you are looking at the correct exam sitting. Then contact the Student Secretary’s Office and describe the issue.
I need exam adjustments. What should I do?
Contact the Equality Office via the eRezerwacje system and arrange a meeting at which you can present the relevant documentation. Do this within the deadline given on the CLC website under “Exam”, so that the necessary adjustments can be put in place.
Exam exemptions and the ACERT certificate
I have a language certificate or I have already passed an exam at Poznan University of Technology. Can I be exempted from the exam?
You may apply for an exemption from the final exam or part of it. Details are available on the CLC website under “Exam”, in the section on exam exemptions, and under “Application Forms”.
Does an exam exemption also exempt me from the language course?
No. An exemption from the final exam does not exempt you from attending and passing the language course.
Does an exam exemption entitle me to an ACERT certificate?
No. Students who are exempt from the final exam or part of it are not entitled to receive an ACERT certificate.
Will I automatically receive an ACERT certificate after passing the exam?
Not always. The conditions for receiving an ACERT certificate are described on the CLC website in the materials about the exam and the certificate. Passing the exam means you have passed the course, but it does not always mean that you qualify for the certificate.
Contact and administrative matters
Who should I contact about my case?
For academic matters, such as course content, grades, absences, requirements and office hours, contact your teacher. For administrative matters related to registration, the placement test, changing groups, the exam or exam exemptions, use the information on the CLC website and contact the Student Secretary’s Office.
I need a certificate confirming my language level or the language course I am taking. Can I get one?
Yes. If you are taking a language course, CLC can issue a certificate confirming the level of the course you are attending. Contact the Student Secretary’s Office and state your degree programme, mode and cycle of study, as well as the name of your teacher.
